About this event

This trip on the Main AuSable begins at an outfitter in Grayling.  See http://www.penrodscanoe.com/  for driving directions.  We will meet in the morning, unload our boats and gear, and after moving our vehicles to the takeout, we'll head downstream.  There will be a stop along the way (at a small campground) to enjoy a picnic lunch.  Special added attraction: birthday goodies for everyone (in honor of our latest eligible "senior pass" person)!

Paddling time should be about 4 hours.

This trip is a perfect intro to river paddling, and should be a fun experience for canoeists and kayakers of all abilities.  The Main AuSable is a wonderful place to practice the skills that you may find useful later in the season, since you'll be doing a little bit of maneuvering.

In the summertime, the AuSable is filled with rental canoes, but in the springtime, we will have it mostly to ourselves.  We may meet some people fishing along the way, but otherwise, it should be a peaceful float, with good opportunities for wildlife sightings.

Each participant should have a waterproof bag with a complete change of clothing.  Make sure you have appropriate footwear in case you need to step into the water when entering your boat.  D
etails about exact meeting time will be sent to all participants with your registration confirmation.
