Sept 22 Upper Platte to Deadstream

Since the sun was having a difficult time burning through the cloud cover this morning, my tandem bike ride around Old Mission Peninsula was a bit chilly. But, by the time Marv, Marlene, Bob Fitch & I arrived at Veterans Park to leisurely unload & shuttle at 2PM, the sun was sparkling on the river, like diamonds in the rough! And, since I've been in sensory overload this summer hiking in Colorado, the Alps & The John Muir Trail, it was exciting to experience the Platte at a higher level, with little riffles most of the way downstream, and enough water to cover all of the gravel bars. When Marv almost got snagged on 2 low cedar branches, I decided to remove them in his honor, and make an addition to the fish habitat. Since no one was in a rush to end our lovely afternoon together, we had agreed that we would all paddle to Deadstream, and so glad we did, since we had time to catch up on each other's summer adventures, watch a patterned turtle sunning on a rock, a blue heron take flight, and an immature eagle fly overhead, then land in a tree, while we admired it from below. Fishermen greeted us at several bridges, trying to snag one of the big ones we tried to herd their way. So, it was an easy afternoon with friends, extended by dinner in Honor with M&M, and driving home to a lavendar full moon on the eastern horizon.
