This is an evening class covering canoe and kayak safety, selection of boats and gear and a general intro to paddlesports.  The course will be taught by John Heiam and Lois Goldstein, the Webmaster and Outings Chair of the Traverse Area Paddle Club (TAPC).  In addition to boat selection and gear to bring along, we will discuss fitting a PFD, where to go, what to wear, mistakes to avoid, how to load a boat on a car, how to enter and exit a boat safely, how to organize a shuttle, etc.

We are working with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary of TC to offer a class that is open to the public.  It focuses on an Intro to Kayaking plus a Paddle Craft Safety Course.  Note: ALL ages - including teenagers - are welcome, though the class is not appropriate for younger children. 

This presentation is all about beginning kayaking in the Traverse City area.  It is being planned to educate not just members of the TAPC, but also the entire community.  We are hoping to get more folks interested in paddling around our area.  There won't be any on-water component, but throughout the summer, we will make ourselves available to teach TAPC members on the water on an informal basis.  You just need to contact John & Lois and ask us for a lesson.
