Sorry, the forecast for Sunday does not look inviting for a paddle on the
Upper Platte, and I didn’t want to cancel at the last minute. Though it has been
cleared, there are many tight spots, under & around overhanging trees, where
an unplanned swim could happen. I am rescheduling for Tues 5/21. If you can come
along, you will need to sign up again. Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday!
The river has been cleared, so portages may not be necessary.
No need to travel far for our Spring Fling adventures! We'll watch spring arrive, the marsh marigolds, birds in flight & song, and trees blossom.
It could be cool in the shade, so dress warm enough. This is a narrow, shallow gravel river among cedar swamp, with lots of twists & turns, and some riffles. It takes approx 2 hrs to paddle the 7 mile stretch through Honor to Indian Hill Rd, another 1/2 hr to 45 minutes to paddle to Deadstream Rd. Bring PFD, paddle, bow & stern lines, snack, water & appropriate clothing in a dry bag.
There will be 2 options for the take-out, depending on the wind on Platte Lake: 1) along the eastern shore of Platte Lake, or 2) up the creek. If it gets windy & rough during our 3 hr paddle, it may not be safe to paddle across the lake.
If cold rain, this trip may be cancelled.
