If you are interested in the creepy crawlies that inhabit the rivers we canoe in, this outing if for you.

This is the fourth year of sampling macroinvertebrates on the Pine River for an assessment of stream quality.  This sampling is the start of ongoing data collection that goes into the MiCorps stream quality database and our effort is the only private project plan that MiCorps has so far approved.

The data so far indicates that the level of use at the sites we sample may be impacting the Pine's stream quality, so more good data to support or reject that observation is necessary.  Last year, the site at the Peterson Landing dropped from good to fair stream quality as the numbers and diversity of the macroinvertebrates declined from previous years.

Our team can use people interested in collecting the macroinvertebrates from the river, people to sort through the sample and preserve what we find, and other helpers.  It is especially good for those who want an idea of the underwater life in the
Pine River as well as those who fish and have an interest in seeing what flies may be hatching in the future.
