This little stream is one of the gems of Northwest Michigan.  In the heart of the summer, it could be filled with rental canoes, but during the week in September, we will likely be the only river users.  We may find some emerging fall colors and perhaps some wildlife sightings.  Our time on the river to Deadstream Road should be about 3 hours.

We'll begin paddling at Veteran's Park campground, on the south side of US-31.  If you would like to join us for lunch afterwards at Papa J's in Honor, that would be great!

Everyone should bring a boat, paddle, PFD, ropes to tie on the bow and stern, water bottle and a snack.  Bring along a bag of dump clothes, just in case.  Don't forget your sunhat and sunglasses with a retainer. And have a change of clothes and shoes in the vehicle so you can be nice and dry on your way home.

Driving directions: Platte River (Upper section)

Veteran's Park campground, on the south side of US-31.  It's about eight miles west of Interlochen Corners, just west of the bridge where US-31 crosses the Platte River, just past the Fish Hatchery and Thompsonville Highway.
