July 14th - Jordan River Cleanup

Published on 7/14/2011

July 14th, 2011 - Jordan River Cleanup

It was a perfect day, 70s and a little cloudy but just a light breeze that swirled around and kept the 10 of us comfortable.

Lois, John H., John M., M&M, Ian, Gail, Fred, Judy, and Norm attended.

The river was not too bad and we only found a combined 3 full medium bags of trash which we left, one at each bridge we came to.

The Swiss Hideaway guys gave us a complimentary shuttle and the Jordan River Outfitters took most of the trash for us at Webster Bridge.  It's very nice to have the cooperation of the livery folks.  They are getting used to seeing us and I know they appreciate our efforts.

The best find was the new Porta-Potty that has been added to the Old State Rd. Landing.  It was just what some of us needed.  Lois was very pleased.  Now all we need is a shower and bar at Rogers.

We had lunch at the "tubes" and watched the renters come shooting past.  Lunch with entertainment.  At Webster, some renters who had passed us at the tubes said they didn't see any trash until they got to the tubes.  Duh!  We had just cleaned there.

6 of us took out at Webster for various reasons and the others continued to Rogers.   Gail wanted to get every can she saw.  She is a tiger.  I had to drag her to the end or she would have been there all night diving for cans.

On our way home, John M. and I drove back past the bridges where we had left the trash and picked it up.  It was gently deposited into the big, mostly empty dumpster at the campground on Graves Crossing Rd.

Thanks to everyone who helped.  The Jordan is a lot nicer today than it was yesterday because of you.  Our efforts are paying off and we are finding less trash every year.
