June 7 Hodenpyl Dam to Red Bridge on the Manistee

John Heiam | Published on 6/7/2020
John, Lois, Henry, Gerald, Susan, Tom, and Donna met at the Hodenpyl Dam launch site on the Manistee River thirty minutes before the scheduled shuttle. We had some company at the beach at the bottom of the stairs, but everyone was polite. John even gave some duct tape to one of the paddlers who had to repair his paddle before they launched. Once on the river we saw only one other paddler, but there were a lot of fisherman and hikers along the banks. We had a relaxing lunch at one of the many campsites along the shore, and then finished the trip in the early afternoon. The trip goes pretty quickly with no swim breaks, and fast current.
