Moving Water Clinic
This is a CLINIC designed for beginning paddlers who want to learn more about handling a kayak on moving water. Topics include how to get into the boat, proper paddling technique, upstream ferries, back ferries, eddy turns, peel-outs, and handling obstacles that might obstruct your path down the river.
Our intrepid Webmaster (John Heiam), his Outings Chair wife (Lois Goldstein) and President (Tracie Lord) have offered their services to teach TAPC members some basic maneuvering skills on the Boardman River.
In order to register for this event, you should have some experience paddling on flat water and easy rivers. Specifically, make sure you have spent at least 20 hours in your kayak, so you are familiar with how your paddle blade moves your boat to make it go where you want it to go.
We will spend three hours covering the stretch from Shumsky to Beitner, which normally can be covered in an hour.
