The US Coast Guard Auxiliary of TC is offering a class focusing on an Intro to Kayaking plus a Paddle Craft Safety Course that is open to the public, in hopes of making this summer a safe boating season for Michigan.  The course will be taught by John Heiam and Lois Goldstein, the Webmaster and Outings Chair of the TAPC.  We will discuss boat selection, gear to bring along, how to fit a PFD, where to go, what to wear, mistakes to avoid, how to load a boat on a car, how to organize a shuttle, etc.

This is an evening class covering canoe and kayak safety, selection of boats and gear and a general intro to paddlesports.  The fee is $10 to cover the cost of the textbook.  Please contact Dianne Walker at 231-941-8076 or diannewalk48@gmail.com  for more information or to sign up for this course.

This presentation is all about beginning kayaking in the Traverse City area.  It is being planned to educate not just members of the TAPC, but also the entire community.  We are hoping to get more folks interested in paddling around our area.  There won't be any on-water component, but throughout the summer, we will make ourselves available to teach TAPC members on the water on an informal basis.  You just need to contact John & Lois and ask us for a lesson.
