This trip is a perfect intro to river paddling, and should be a fun experience for canoeists and kayakers of all abilities. In the summertime, the AuSable is filled with rental canoes, but on a weekday in early autumn, we will have it mostly to ourselves. We may meet some people fishing along the way, but otherwise, it should be a peaceful float, with good opportunities for wildlife sightings. There will likely be some awesome fall color too!
In previous years, we have done this trip almost the same day; here are the reports:

We will begin at Penrod's in Grayling, drop off our boats and gear, and then run the shuttle. See http://www.penrodscanoe.com/ for driving directions.
As we paddle downstream, there will be a stop for lunch (bring a hot drink if it's chilly). The river distance is 13 miles and the paddling time should be less than 4 hours.
Make sure you dress appropriately for the weather and bring along a dry bag with extra clothes.
