Update Sunday evening June 17: We are postponing this trip due to the prediction of thunderstorms. Keep checking the calendar for a new date. This outing is a leisurely 2-way shoreline paddle on East Bay from Haserot Beach Park to the tip of the Old Mission Peninsula. We didn't do this trip for several years, but now that the water levels in Lake Michigan have risen, it's a great time to return to one of our old favorites.
It's about an hour each way, depending on the wind and the abilities of the group. For safety reasons, your kayak must have sealed bulkheads or flotation in BOTH the front and back of your boat. Also for safety AND fun, we would like everyone to keep within talking distance while we are on the water, to assure that power boats and jet skis will see us as a group.
We plan to launch at 10:45 AM and will eat our lunch (so bring one!) at the lighthouse park at the tip of the peninsula. With favorable conditions we may be able to view the wreckage of the Schooner Metropolis while we paddle along the northeast side of the peninsula. This outing is normally accomplished in smooth water due to the prevailing winds from the west, but conditions can change.
Directions to the park:
From TC, take M-37 north along the Old Mission Peninsula. About 15 miles north of Front Street, turn right (east) on Swaney Road, and drive about one mile to Haserot Beach.
