You will need a vehicle pass from Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore - a senior pass will do, or get one at the Visitor's Center beforehand.

About this event

Expand your horizons, and come paddle a section of the shoreline along Sleeping Bear Dunes that might be new for you. This will be an out-and-back trip along the beach, and around the base of Pyramid Point. We will probably round the point and head south near the Leelanau School beach, and then return. We should have excellent views of the Manitou Islands and maybe some freighters passing through. If we feel energetic, as we head back to the parking area, we can paddle further east to the Good Harbor Bay Hiking Trailhead.

The trip will go along the shoreline, and we will not be more than 100 feet off the beach at any time, though we would want everyone to paddle within speaking distance of the rest of the group. Please take a kayak that is at least 12' long.

We will pass by the outlet of Shalda Creek, where there's a potty, plus a birding trail. This was the location of a small village in the mid-19th century. See
