Trip Reports

July 1 - Power Island/West Bay

Published on 7/1/2011
John and Lois, Karen, John and Rosario met at the Bower's Harbor Boat Launch at 10am, unloaded gear and started paddling towards the island. As we rounded the bend out of the protection of the harbor, the wind picked up and we were facing white caps so the group decided to turn around and find another place to paddle. Lois suggested launching from Bryant Park and paddling towards Clinch Park which the group quickly agreed to given that it meant no extra driving or shuttling of cars!

This turned out to be a fabulous paddle! We unloaded again at Bryant Park and paddled past the Maritime Academy boat, paddled a few blocks up the Boardman River and then headed to Clinch Park for lunch at the picnic tables.
Here's a shot of our fearless leader - the birthday girl!

After lunch we were getting ready to launch when the air show rehearsal started. We had front row seats to the Coast Guard helicopter rescue and then paddled back watching the air show planes practice overhead. What a fun paddle! We all decided that we should post this as a trip next year!
