June 6 Pine River - Dobson to Low

We had postponed this trip from nine days ago, when it was still chilly and wet, and the water was too high for a safe outing.  But look - it's summertime, at last!
Fortunately, most of the original registrants could still make this new date, and we were glad we had waited.  The skies were blue, and we could wear river sandals, shorts and tee shirts for the first time this spring.  The group consisted of leaders John & Lois, Susan & Gerald, Jocelyn, Harold, Kathleen and Marlene.  Our shuttle bunny was Marv.  Wildflowers were abundant, the water level was perfect and we saw only one or two other groups of paddlers.  
There was one group that launched at our lunch stop at Peterson Bridge - they carried their beer cans on little koozies around their necks.  Luckily for them, the days are really long now, since they stopped for their first break on a sand bar just ten minutes after launching.  At that rate, they would be off the river just about at sunset!  I have a feeling that our Pine River cleanups later this summer will yield a bunch of debris.  We can only hope that the proposed alcohol ban will deter people from imbibing, and that the behavior and trash will improve.  We shall see...
Our group had a wonderful time!  Afterwards several of us adjourned to Outback for dinner and then to the GT Pavilions for a fabulous concert by Dominic Fortuna.
