About this event

Join us for a foray into the swamps of Interlochen as we wind our way through Betsie Creek, accessed from the north end of Green Lake. This trip features slow-moving water, numerous obstacles to avoid (but easy ones since the current is slow), a couple small beaver dams to scootch over (getting out shouldn't be required), a low bridge to duck under, a narrow creek with close-in brush, and a beautiful lake (Bridge Lake) to paddle around. This will be an in and back paddle with no shuttle.

Requirements: an adventurous spirit! If you possess this, it will be a fun and exciting trip. If not, you may not enjoy it. You and your boat will get dirty, and getting scratched from the brush is a possibility. Finding out-of-the-way places to explore is one of my favorite activities, and this is one of the best I've found nearby. I'm excited to share this place with others!

The launch location is a small boat launch on Diamond Park Road. From Interlochen Corners, go south on M-137. At Diamond Park Road, turn right (just before the Interlochen Center for the Arts property begins). After about a mile, the road makes a sharp turn west away from the lake. The launch is at that corner on Green Lake. Parking is limited, so carpooling is recommended. If people are interested, we could have dinner together in Interlochen afterwards.
