This trip is a perfect intro to river paddling, and should be a fun experience for canoeists and kayakers of all abilities. In the summertime, the AuSable is filled with rental canoes, but in early autumn, we will have it mostly to ourselves. We may meet some people fishing along the way, but otherwise, it should be a peaceful float, with good opportunities for wildlife sightings. There will likely be some awesome fall color too!
In previous years, we have done this trip almost the same day; here are the reports:

We will begin at Penrod's in Grayling, drop off our boats and gear, and then run the shuttle. See http://www.penrodscanoe.com/ for driving directions.
As we paddle downstream, there will be a stop for lunch (bring a hot drink if it's chilly). The river distance is 13 miles and the paddling time should be less than 4 hours.
Make sure you dress appropriately for the weather and bring along a dry bag with extra clothes.
