This stretch of the Pine is just exquisite; there is very little rental traffic, and no watercraft permits are necessary on this section.  Even on a weekend, there shouldn't be many other paddlers around.  This is not an official cleanup trip, but if we see any non-native debris, we should pick it up.  So bring a bag or two.

We will begin in the morning, and will stop for a picnic lunch at the Skookum access, about halfway through the trip.  The exact meeting time will be sent to you with your email confirmation.  Total paddling time is about 4 hours.

The Upper Pine is a great river to practice maneuvering skills.  This trip is open to adventurous beginners as well as those folks who already know how to avoid downed trees and submerged rocks.  If you would like to develop these skills, we can give you some pointers as you head downstream.  The water is very clear, and isn't very deep, so it's a great place for a leisurely trip on a summer day.  Here's the trip report from this same trip a few years ago: https://tapc.clubexpress.com/content.aspx?page_id=5&club_id=813410&item_id=32761

For driving directions, see the listing for Pine River (5 Mile - Briarpatch access) on our website.  NOTE: Do not rely on your smartphone for navigation purposes!  Cell coverage can be spotty; twice we had someone totally lost on the way to the put-in and one just turned around and went home.  The other guy paid for his own shuttle and finally caught us (after no lunch break) near the end of the day.  If you have never driven to Briarpatch before, try to carpool or else find someone to follow.
