If you are interested in the creepy crawlies that inhabit the rivers we canoe in, this outing if for you.
Join other volunteers with the Benzie Conservation District as we sample macroinvertebrates to assess stream quality on either the Platte River, Betsie River, or Herring Creek. TAPC members have helped out with the Platte River and Betsie River teams in the past where we have demonstrated excellent reproducibility in stream quality scores from our collecting. We will get our assignment on the day of collecting. Volunteers are needed to wade the river collecting samples, to sort through the samples and preserve macroinvertebrate specimens, or to help out with the activity in general. We will work at three sites along the river collecting for about an hour at each site and stop for lunch. Collecting equipment is provided but having your own tall waterproof boots for standing around the shore is a plus. TAPC participants have added a great deal to this effort and have made an effective team.
